I have a zilla critter cage 20 gallon. I have a zoo med heat mat attached to the terrarium. How do I clean the terrarium and how often should I clean? Is the zoo med wipe out1 a good cleaner and disinfector? I also keep my leopard gecko on kitchen roll and I clean the poop right away.

I usually just clean when the paper towel starts looking dirty (or the gecko makes a mess with food/calcium). The time can range from a few weeks to a few months depending on what goes on in the cage. :)

You can usually use sponges/paper towels to clean, then wipe with just water to remove residue. If you are using something that leaves fumes, you may want to actually unplug the pad cord and carry the tank somewhere to be rinsed. I don't know much about Zoo Med Wipe Out, so maybe someone else will reply.

Everything, including the tank and caves, should be scrubbed with soap and hot water and disinfected a few times a year. That requires carrying everything to a tub or sink.

I use chlorhexidine.. A vet grade disinfect. Affordable and safe.. One small bottle has lasted over a year as it gets diluted quite a bit...with a quite large collection 40+ geckos and ,60+ snakes. I clean when it needs to be cleaned...but minimum is a once a month deep clean and scrub on the geckos.
