In about 2 weeks my first ever egg should hopefully be hatching(candled it and its fertile) So i was just wondering how often i should check my incubator around that time. Can you tell when its about to hatch? Im just worried that it will hatch while im at school and no ones home. The incubator has no air holes so im worried it will suffocate.....

I think they can live in an air tight container for over 12 hours so you should be good.. check every chance you get
good luck

fortunatly or unfortunatly ( depends on how you look at it) I work at home so when I have an egg ready to hatch I catch myself looking a 100 times a day through the little window. I would think before school and in the evening would be adequate. My first egg got dents ( worse then it already had) a few days before it hatched and it got like a translucent ( sort of) spot on one sidealso a few days before it hatched.

my egg is getting translucent on the bottom half...i posted that a few days ago and got no answers. Do you think its getting trans. because its gonna hatch soon?

Normally the egg will swell up pretty good, and start to sweat before it hatches. I have had eggs sweat for two days before the hatchling actually breaks the eggs. Then I have had some that the whole process takes like an hour. If it was to hatch while you are not home, a few hours in the cup will not hurt it. Just check before you go to school, and then when you come home and everything should be fine.

If you are using an Hovabator, it's best that you keep opening it to a minimum due to temperature fluctualtions.

Can you tell us when the eggs were laid and what temperature they are being incubated at? Here is a general idea for incubation times:

80-82 degrees - 50-56 days
84-86 degrees - 46-49 days
88-90 degrees - 36-45 days
