How often should I switch the food up?

I've been feeding Zeus just mealworms for a week now, and he's been doing great. I swear his tail has gotten even fatter as he eats a LOT. But, I've been reading about impaction from mealworms and that frightens me because he's little but he eats so many. For example, one day he ate 10. I tried only giving him 5 but he kept looking around for them when I went away. I knew he was still hungry so he stopped at 10.
I make sure the mealworms are smaller so it's easier for him, but I don't want to impact the little guy! I HATE CRICKETS but I will suck it up and be a good mama. However, he really likes the mealworms and I heard variety is best. How often should I switch it up? Should I do half a week of crickets, the next on mealworms? Or should it be different every day?

I've heard of many Leopard Gecko owners that feed their Leos on mealies alone. I feed mine mostly on them, and never had an issue. If you are truly worried, you can try to feed them only ones that had molted recently and have a less hard shell. Truthfully, I don't think there's a problem with it though. But that's just one opinion. I'm sure there will be many different ones. lol

I've heard that too where their havent been problems. I wasn't worried but I have noticed a difference in his bowels after having him on mealies this past week. When I got him they were feeding him crickets and he was going once everyday and they were big! Haha, but a couple days after starting him on the mealworms he goes once every one day and they are smaller even though he eats a lot.
Is this normal? Maybe he's just getting used to the new environment? But he eats great and he's quite fat and healthy

Mealworms can be used the most, but buying 10 crickets from your local store once a week or two doesn't hurt. The best way to make sure that his body isn't overwhelmed by the food is to limit the amount you feed him.

Sounds like he's doing fine. I wouldn't worry about it. Just monitor its eating, like Caleb said, and also it's good to keep its diet varied. Mealworms and crickets, as well as a treat like a Waxworm, is the best feeding plan. Phoenix worms are okay, but they have a poor shelf life from what I've seen.

Agreed with these folks! Sounds like you're doing everything right. If it isn't broken, don't try to fix it
