If you have a rack system you would want to use heat tape or heat cable. This really is only good for a rack system or shelf system though, and you would need to have the heating device hooked up to a thermostat or rheostat to monitor the temperatures to make sure the hatchlings won't be burned.

For non-racks your best bet is small heat pads. Again with these you need a thermostat or rheostat to monitor the temperatures.

Leos need belly heat to help them digest their food and regulate their body temperature, so lamps aren't really that effective as heating devices (unless used as a secondary source of heat along with a UTH).

Im a little confused. Are you housing your babies in actual shoe boxes or rubbermaid type containers? Shoe boxes dont seem big enough even for a hatchling.

Hatchlings get very stressed in large enclosures. When he says shoe boxes, he means the plastic 6 qt. bins. They are more then large enough. You really need to do alot more research Baker, what were you planning on housing hatchlings in?

I thought he meant actual shoeboxes, for shoes, not plastic rubbermaid containers. Im unfamiliar with using shoe box to refer to them, I use tubs or rubbermaid container. I havent begun breeding nor will I until I have researched, which I am still in the process of doing and until my male and female are the appropriate size of 60+ grams. Also, I will have plenty of tubs ready for hatchlings that arent to big.
