How to make grout rock background?

I will be making my bearded dragon and a leopard gecko a back ground.The leos will be small,but the beardeds will be in a 55 gallon.I was wondering what typeof grout I should use,how many layers of grout,how long should I wait betweenlayers of grout,if acrylic paint is safe,andwhat type of sealer I should use.Here is how I have it planned out:

Cut the foam how I want it.Put a certain ammount of grout layers,paint 1-2 coats of acrylic paint,let paint dry,then seal with a layer of sealer.Does this sound right?Any advice is greatly appreciated!Thanks!

There is a green water based grout sealer that I plan to use for this technique I'll be doing in a 70 gallon tank and later for an eight foot x two ft x six foot wall unit I plan to build for my fiancé's beardie.
