Hey guys, i've been looking at leo enclosures with loose substrate, and i threw something together. So you take toilet/ paper towel rolls and cut them up into appropriate sizes for your tank and cut a hole in the side of them or make attach them length-wise to go straight and make a big tunnel system underneath your substrate for your little critters. As long as you didnt have more than an inch of like sand shouldnt collapse. Any thoughts?

To much risk of calapse if your going to make tunnels atleast use pvc. But a few thaught come to mind the tunnels will get filthy and you will never be able to get the leos out of them. I personally think keep it simple, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

It sounds like cool idea, but I would have to agree with Chris. You would have no way to access the inside of the tubes, if they happened to get wet the cardboard will mold pretty quickly, and last using sand is not ideal for a leopard gecko. You could try to make an under ground area out of styrofoam. I have seen several people make these and some of them look pretty amazing. Many of them are made in two pieces and can be taken apart to access the inside. I believe you can but something similar made of a soft foam at some LPS. I was thinking of making a display tank in my gecko room and using this idea to make an under ground level that can be viewed.

You guys make some good points i never thought of. I'm interested in that underground styrofoam area. Would i just hollow out a block of foam and make it look like a big water bowl with a removable top on it? And for your underground level, would you use like a false bottom with an access hole?
