Okay, I have to be quick posting this... laptop is going to die. Lol!

I am looking for ideas on how to regulate the temps a little easier in my terraniums. I have rheostats set up but the temperature always seems to go too high. I also have basic reptile 40watt bulbs in the lights, but not sure if they need light in order to see anything. My room isnt completely dark, but if they need light they will most likely need their lights on. Any ideas on how I can regulate the temps a bit more. More so lower them (Rheostats are as low as they can go without being turned off already)

Thanks!

I would say switch to either a lower watt bulb in black or red light ( as I understand they can't see these) or led that doesn't put off any heat. Being nocturnal, I would think they can see in the dark on thier own.

when you say basic reptile bulb what do you mean by that? Is it just a day light bulb or red light or black light or what? it will help determine what is best if we had that info.

Thanks,

First of all, bulbs can be a pain. I like just using a plain old heat pad or heat tape. Much cheaper, too!

And there is a fantastic rheostat on the market - the Zoo Med ReptiTemp 500R - that I feel works almost as well as a thermostat as long as you use it in conjunction with a thermometer (of course). I've been using it very successfully for some time now. The thing about it is, it has a probe so that it knows when to turn on or off according to the hotness you set it to.

Although.. My only complaint that it doesn't have specific temperature that you can select.. Just a "Cooler" to "Warmer" knob. But once you figure out what position keeps your enclosure at the right temperature, you're set! I haven't touched mine and temps only fluctuate a few degrees between day and night.

The light I use during the day is a reptile basking spot lamp. Maybe that is why it puts off so much heat... I also have a blue day bulb (same wattage) and a red night bulb, also the same wattage.
