I've noticed for a bit that Noel hadn't been gaining weight in her tail for quite some time, but her belly was getting HUGE. At first I thought maybe she was just storing fat in her belly instead of her tail (due to the loss of most of her tail as a hatchling). I've been keeping an eye on her belly for the last few weeks, and noticed a few days ago she was ovulating. The major problem being, she's just barely 8 months old now and hasn't even hit 40g yet. On a hunch, I changed out her paper towels in the humid hide for coconut husk. She made a complete MESS of it, but I let it be. I peeked in on her tonight and she's right in the middle of laying eggs. So, my hunch was right!! No wonder her tail hadn't been growing and her belly was huge. So, now I need to know what steps I can take to stop her from making follicles again, and going through another clutch.

Sorry about the crappy pic, but I didn't want to bother her while she might still be laying the other egg.

Ok, false alarm on the egg .... that's actually her calcium dish! LOL Boy, it sure looks like an egg when 1/2 buried. However, I did check her belly and the ovulation spots are on their way to becoming eggs, so I still have the same problem regaurdless.

If she is even close to a male in the room you are keeping her in move her away or in another room this is sometimes the cause of younger females producing eggs.

Shanti, if there is any way you can move her to another room where there aren't any pheromones floating around the room, that can sometimes help. It's tough when this happens, because the best way to stop ovulation is to turn down the heat and reduce the photocycle... but that may also reduce her appetite.

I've got lots of spare heat pads, I can move her to the bedroom pretty easily. She's got plenty of fat on her, I'm more concerned with her having problems with laying eggs given her small size. In our bedroom we can reduce the photo period quite easily as well. Thanks! I hope this works.

I had a female that was never exposed to a male lay 4 clutches last year without any problems. In hindsight I should of just bred her after she started laying since she kept on going, but I thought she was too young. I think she was about 7-8 months as well.
