any ideas on how to switch from crix to mealies?

maybe some background will help......
adopted a 89g male 1 1/2 year old male on dec 29, was eating crix and supers, his food bowl had 3 supers when i got him i believe he has eaten 2 (atleast 2 are gone), and i gave him 3 crix which he took a day to eat. He has pooped 3 times since i have gotten him, has only lost 1 g weight, and just shed last week. Temps are 93 and 80.

I hope he is acclimated by now, he lets me hold him and runs all over my floor, like a happy fellow.
I am plannin on breeding mealies and didnt know if there was an easy way to switch from crix to mealworms in a older gecko???

do i just put plenty of mealies in and when he is hungry he will hopefully find them and eat them???

i only ask because i switched 2 juvies from crix to mealworms by just putting mealies in a ashtray and 2 days later the juvies switched.

There are several ways to switch feeders.
Some people stop giving crix completely and just offer mealies in a bowl. It could take a few minutes to a few weeks for them to finally eat new feeders. I think it depends on how picky your gecko is.

I find that if you are introducing new feeders, making them move infront of the gecko stimulates their predator response which might make them eat the new feeder. When I introduce new feeders, I usually offer them from my hand or tweezers.

This may sound weird, but none of my leos would touch mealies
until I started dusting them w/ calcium plus (the Repashy stuff) :main_rolleyes:

Even now, they ignore them if they arent "seasoned" with the stuff.
