okay my juvenile Leo likes his food live. Since he's still growing and lost a little weight I've been giving him superworms. I've read many threads on here that say superworms and wax worms can injure geckos if the geckos don't crush the head.

How can I pull the mandibles off without hurting my gecko?

If hes juvenile you should be feeding him meal worms not super worms. Any way you can cut their head off or crush their heads to help your leo eat them easier. Their nerves will still be going for about an hour or two so your leo should still be able to see them squirm.

You can totally feed them superworms, they come in various sizes as well from tiny to fully-grown. I guess you would need thin tweezers, but I don't know, I've never messed with my worms and have never had issues feeding them.

When i first got into leopard geckos. i was afrair of the mealworms biting my gecko, so i would take a sewing needle or pin, let the worm bite the long side (not the tips or end), and then push on the mandibles one at a time from the inside and it will pop the mandibles out enough for them to be able to not function.

but over time i realized that that time consuming process was pointless, because leopard geckos are brutal! :D
