There was a typhoon passing within short distance from Hong Kong on Thursday, but stupid Hong Kong Observatory refused to issue a stronger typhoon warning, so everybody has to go to work as usual; fortunately, its summer vacation for school kids, otherwise, we'll have lots of junior school kids flying in the sky.
I live right next to the Hong Kong airport (15 mins walk) and we're closer to the typhoon than the eastern side of Hong Kong; the strongest gust recorded in my area was up to 217 km/h! We do not have a car and hubby has to go to work. He said he had a terribly difficult time just to cross the road to get to the train station. Have a look our news (in english):

Many were injured, mostly elderlys, cargo containers collapsed, over 700 trees fell (some were hundred years old, there really aren't that many trees in Hong Kong)...and HKO still says their decision was right!:main_thumbsdown:
