Humid hide

I am using square rubbermaid tubs for my humid hides in my rack. I have noticed much nicer sheds since they were added. I use organic Perilite as a medium in the boxes. I read somewhere that some people use a 1:1 water/perilite ratio in their boxes. This seems way too moist to me. What is the general consensus on how moist to keep the hides? I know plenty of sites that say "water should not drip out of the mixture and it should be crumbly" but I'm more scientific minded. Does anyone have a volume ratio?

Thanks,

Yeah I use sphagnum moss. I just soak it and squeeze out the extra water and give it back to the geckos. I've heard of other folks using perlite but it just looks so hard and uncomfortable compared to the soft squishy moss!

Coco fiber (ecoearth) ftw, great moist hide & laybox medium. Keeps moisture well, soft to lay on, easy for females to dig.
