Humidifier Question

I was wondering if it is safe to use a humidifier (cool mist) in my bedroom that contains my reptiles (leopard geckos and turtles). I usually run it at night while I sleep to try and help relieve my horrible allergies.

Just want to double check as far as respiratory infection safety.

Thank you.

Humidifier Use

IMO based on reading material on
respiratory infection:
Not only should you be concerned
about the geckos, but there may be
health risks for you.
In your case I would imagin it would
need to be pretty high humidity.
(but worth checking)
Since the gecko wants/lives in dry conditions,
it would certainly be at risk for
respiratory infection.
Just as it would if too cold.
And misting the gecko tank down is not
a wise choice.
(as I saw in a few other posts to
supply drinking water with out a bowl.)
Take care. HJ

Our house gets extremely dry in the winter (like 0% humidity). We used a small humidifier last year with no problems. I had to use it because our geckos water dishes would dry out completely within 12 hours. Once I put the humidifier on (a couple times a week), it stopped drying them out so quickly.

I'll be curious to see what others say on the issue though.

I try to keep my place around 50-60% humidity. The recommended humidity in a house is 30-50. Anything less than 50% for myself results in extremely bad sinus congestion, sore throat, headaches, and fevers. With the higher humidity of 50-60% my geckos have been fine. Anything over 60% and you will begin to get condensation on windows and molds.

Thank you guys! :)

I noticed that the water bowls dry out rather quickly as well and I hope maybe with the humidifier this process will be slowed as well as helping my allergies.

The house humidity after I ran the humidifier all night was 53%.
