Humidity problems!

For the last 2 years, the spring and summer months have been terrible for Humidity in the tank. It hits as high as 65%!! We have tried leaving a humidifier on high and it does little good. Only a few % change. No matter what room the tank is in the humidity never changes.

What advice can you guys give me on how to lower the humidity? We have a small lamp on the tank that keeps the air temp around 75-78 degrees and that helps control the humidity but during these months we don't utilize the lamps. Any advice would be great as this problem has exhausted our ideas.

Thanks!!

We do also have a humid hide but it being a Tupperware container, keeps the humidity quite contained within itself.

The humidity in my tanks tends to be about 60-70%. It's never caused an issue with any of my animals. if i were you i would stop using the lamp to try to lower the humidity and stop worrying about it. Most of my geckos enjoy hanging out in their moist hides for a large portion of their day anyhow and the humidity in those is probably over 90%.

You are using some other source of heat, right? Those temps are awfully low, unless you mean the cold side of the enclosure.

The natural habitat of leos isn't as dry as most people think, so moderate humidity levels shouldn't cause any issues. I wouldn't be overly concerned about it personally.

I've done SO much consulting with this forum and researching about temperatures. This forum on numerous occasions told me the following:

Ambient air: room temperature or as high as 80. I have the ground temperature 88-91 on the warm side and it gradually goes to upper 70s on the cool side. Equal enclosures on both sides with humid hide on warm side. How is this not a proper set up?

I'm a little confused. So the air temp is the same throughout the enclosure?

Usually yes. I was told I didn't need anything to regulate the air temp so it would be the same air temp throughout the enclosure anyways if my thinking is correct. We try to keep the air temp around 78 throughout and she seems very active and healthy. Been the same set up for 2 years

Whatever floats your boat. I've found that my gecko did better with warmer air temps on the warm side, but some people don't go that route. But that's why I asked if you had another source of heat (in this case, you later said a UTH) because in the original post, you only mentioned a lamp which you don't always use.

Gotcha. Yeah we usually have a lamp on in the center of the tank as the air temps get too low sometimes without it. She seems to be most active under the light which leads me to believe that she likes its current position. I'm sure every Leo is different though. I appreciate your input as I am always learning!

Everything sounds fine with the temps, the air temp is nothing to worry about if they have proper floor temps especially if your tanks like mine and their hot spot is in a cave and it makes a microclimate and the heat stays inside, therefore it wont raise the air temp, and 88-91 is fine, that's how Cesar and all my females like it, any higher and they go to their humid hide to cool off. Humidity with leopard geckos is usually not something most owners pay attention to cause it doesn't really matter if you have just a regular water bowl and your house doesn't flood, it's unlikely the humidity will get to an unhealthy level. They get respatory infection when they're in very high humidity for a very long time like a few weeks or months but you should have nothing to worry about so feel free to sit back a relax ;)
