This is a little specific to an area but it looks like LI and some other parts of the east coast are going to get hit pretty bad by this storm. I wanted to share what I was doing in case I need to leave home (I live about 500 feet from the water). I setup enough deli cups for each gecko and have a Rubbermaid tote set aside that will fit all of them. I bought an inexpensive inverter so I can heat them off of a car battery if necessary. I only have twenty or so geckos so this was all feasible. Those with more may have a much bigger problem.

In general just make sure you all have enough water, food, batteries and other supplies for the important two legged things in your life as well. The geckos come next but I thought some people may have over looked planning for them so I thought I'd put this up.

Good advice. Sounds like you have it all planned out. Hope you don't have to evacuate.

I'm in the Boston area and have a generator ready in case of power outage. Only 5 eggs left in the incubator, but about a hundred geckos and a few bearded dragons that like it warm.

Still hoping Irene takes a sharp turn to the East and goes out to sea.

I'm worrying about it too ._. I'm in Connecticut not far from long Island, and we're suppose to have it as a category 2. I only have two leo's and a dog, but I'm still worried.

In Florida, we are required to submit a disaster plan in order to have a permit from FFW to sell or for public display of reptiles. Sketched out and listed in detail. At least with hurricanes we have an opportunity to prepare a week in advance. Not the case with a tornado with a 5 minute warning.

WoW! Iv never thought about this before. Extreme weather Isn't somthing that happens across the pond. Must be tough times keeping reptiles with limited supplies and no electricity.
Fingers crossed for you all :)

Thankfully it looks like the storm is weakening and we only have a 30% chance of getting hurricane force winds and another 47% chance for tropical storms winds. This of course can still change in both directions but it does make me feel a little better. That being said a tropical storm can still have 70mph winds.

Im vacationing from LI to VA. I have a buddy that I had to give basic care information pick her up from my home. I live on Fire Island NY and they are cutting power to the island. So he has her at his house. Good friends are a blessing!

Well folks I am located on the coast of NC and we got slammed pretty good last night. We lost power for about 7 hours but thankfully my last eggs hatched a couple weeks ago. Not much damage to report but we prepared for it. Not our first "rodeo" lol.. Happy to report that we didnt have to evacuate and all geckos survived the fun.. Good luck to all people who are still waiting for Irene to arrive.. Be safe..

I didn't even lose power at my house but we were forced to evacuate so I didn't know that until we got home. It looks like most people got through it with limited issues but I am worried about the earlier poster that said he lives on Fire Island. They should have gotten hit really hard.

Well, as I said I was on leave/ vacation down in VA. I had a buddy pick my Leo up and take her to his house inland. He brought her there and she did fine. He put crickets in a few hours before I picked her up. Right when i went to get her I opened the tank and she came running for my hand. I havent even had her that long but this girl loves to be held. On the car ride home I looked in the back seat at the tank, and she hunted down a cricket. Thankful for great friends, my leo is doing great. I picked her up some waxworms today and she chowed down. All is well on Fire Island! Thanks!

I just got my power AND cable back a few hours ago. Most of CT was out of power for a looong time... I was lucky we had a generator, so I was able to keep my leos warm and keep other stuff running. Vermont was hit baaaad though.

Remember that reptiles can survive temperature Drops much easier than increases. The temp drops and they get sluggish. As long as its not long term, they will be fine. Temp Increases on the other hand.. Not so much.
