Cheapskate as I am, I decided to try and make a water filter out of materials at hand instead of buying one.
Materials:
duct tape
coffee filter
disposable paper or plastic cup
water pump

1) cut the bottom out of the cup.

2) tape the rim of the filter to the rim of the cup

3) tape the end of the hose the water comes out of on the pump to the top of the filter assembly.

4) Put the base of the pump into the water and the filter assembly over the area you want to be experiencing rainy conditions. Then plug in the pump and you're good to go!

The water level will drop rapidly for a short time before it becomes stationary. If it never stops dropping, use a less powerful pump.
