Talk about almost heart failure! I took Bella out of her tank to take a picture and since she is a baby and still not used to me I put her in a small critter keeper so she wouldnt try to run out of my hands. Well when I went to put her back in she flew out of my hand for the second I had her in my hand and ran under boxes in my closet. Man was she fast! I was terrified of losing her or squishing her trying to find her. I slowly took everything out and finally found her in the back corner trying to burry into clothes. Thank God I found her but it was scary. She will be staying in her cage for a while now until she calms down! No more scares.

Anyone else want to share their near escapes or escapes? I know I cant be the only one haha

My Super Mack Snow Oreo has always been a rather calm and timid gecko, specially as a baby.

But lately he's been a bit jumpy, and it's becoming harder to handle as he'll try to climb all over me especially down my back and that worries me.

Even worse now he seems even more energetic and even Paranoid now >>; as he's been aggressively wagging his tail seemingly at his own shadow.

Now lately he's been trying to climb down me to the floor, ever more brave in his attempts to explore and I worry constantly he'll escape me.

So I share your worries and hope the lil one will learn to calm down as well.

My lizards escaping is my biggest fear. It almost happened to me once. I was cleaning Toon's tank and had put her in a cardboard kleenex box. I didn't think she'd be able to get out of the slot on the top but she did. I had the box on my desk and I looked up just in time to see her sitting right on the edge of my desk. She was actually clinging to a towel that was partially hanging off the side. I was sure she'd bolt when I hurried toward her but luckily she didn't. I keep her in a tank with a screen top that locks and a lock on the doors in the front LOL! And when I clean her tank, she goes in a plastic container with a lid that has holes punched in it and snaps into place :D

i had a tiny baby jump up and bite my finger. natural reaction of course was to jerk my hand away. she did about 10 or 15 sommersaults in the air but landed gently in the palm of my hand. she has never tried to lunge at me since, lol

I handed my 2.5 month old leo to my brother and he jumped off his hand and ran inside of my computer tower. I was freaking out because I thought that it might try to go in the fan.

This morning I was holding my baby leo Pepper to get her used to handling. At first she was fantastic, nice and slow and easy and moving around. Well I had to put her in a small cardboard box to clean out the paper towels in her tank. After the whole tank was set up again, I went to grab her and she hissed at me. That noise always makes me jump! But she crawled on my hand again so I stood up and held her against my body. Well, she decided to try sky diving. She took a really fast leap right off my hand! All the way to the carpet. It was about 3 feet! I about had a heart attack, but gently scooped her back up. Well, she still wasn't finished. I put my hands into the tank and she leapt again. I caught her in my palm but right a way she leapt again and this time I missed, so she fell into the tank. She darted right into her warm side hidey hole, poor dear. I am sure she's alright, just a little freaked out. So am I! But phew. Geckos, am I right? :p

I had a close example to you OP. I took him out of his cage for feeding time and had him in one of those small breeder boxes. i turned around for 1 second to get the worms and he was gone. I looked under my bed and didn't see him. I of course freaked out. Then got the flashlight and looked and he was curling up like 3 in" from the radiator in one of my shirts.

I would be devestated had I not found her. She refused to eat last night so I think it was just as stressful on her as me.

I bet! Hopefully Bella has learned her lesson and wont try anymore flying tricks into the closet. lol

i had an interesting incident; when i hatched my first nova i wanted to get a better look at it. i took it to the front doorway to see it in the light coming in the door. of course, what does it do? leaps into space, drops 4' to the tile floor smacking its head with a mighty (for a hatchling) thud and lays, quivering on its back. horrified, i scooped it up and put it back in the bin. it did recover, but i felt pretty dumb having nearly lost my prize gecko hatchling.

i handle hatchlings low to the ground and over carpet now. :)

Ive had them run up my arms before and had to get Sean to help me get em back, had them jump off my hand, roll down my leg (im normally sat with them so its not far to fall)....but the worst time is when Yoshi got stuck in the couch.

I was sat with him on the couch and he decided to run off my leg and behind my butt. I stood up to try and get him but when i did the springs that the cushion is on kinda trapped him...so rather than let him get squished (i couldnt pull him out and i was scared if i tried id hurt him) i pushed down on the seat so he got free but he went into the couch :anxious:

We tipped it up and cut the bottom but no matter how much we tried we couldnt reach him and he just kept hiding. Then he climbed up the wood in the back.

So we tipped it the other way and sliced the back of the couch open and reached in and took him out :main_laugh:

He was fine and kinda grumpy when he got put back in his viv cos he wanted to go on more adventures. Couch was a wreck though :main_laugh:
