Okay, so I just got a baby beardie on Sunday. I'm keeping him in a large rubbermaid container. (The man I bought it from at a reptile expo said it would be fine). Does anyone esle keep theirs in something like that? I'm using newspaper on the bottom instead of a loose substrate and an infrared heat source.

I just ordered a UVB light that should be in hopefully tomorrow. Right now the temp has stayed mainly around 88-90 degrees. I know it is supposed to be around 100, and I'm hoping when the UVB light comes in that will help.

He (or she) seems to be quite the picky eater! I put a bunch of different food in his (or her lol) food dish, but it didn't seem to take to it. I've seen it eat two meal worms since I bought it. It did, however, eat peas off my finger if I smushed it up, and had about 7 or 8 crickets tonight. Is this normal? I'm thinking the temp might have something to do with it.

He (or she...) started shedding tonight. How often do they shed as babies?

Is there anything I should be looking for with him? I know with my leopard geckos, the tail size is important. Any characteristics that will tell me my little one is healthy or not?

Any suggestions you could give me would be greatly appreciated. I want to get this guy to grow up big and healthy. Thanks in advanced!

Morning, and welcome to your new addiction.
Glad you have ordered a uvb light. Without it your dragon cant digest right or absorb calcium correctly. A dragon doesnt use a calcium dish like a gecko. You will want to set up a diff tank. The bin just isnt going to cut it. You can use reg house hold bulbs for heat and you will need to raise your temps. Click the link in my signature and that will take you to my site. I raise dragons, and I have a care sheet on the site that will help you tweak your set-up.
