If you have a hard time fretting strings here are a few suggestions:
1 Ensure the person who is working on it lowers the action and ensures the truss rod is set properly so the neck does not bow and then go to a lighter gauge string.
2. Buy a finger exercise device that they sell in guitar shops and use it regularly to strengthen your fingers.

I agree with Frank. Take the guitar to a Luthier and have them do a 'set-up'. Let them know what problems you're having with it. You can usually get a 'set-up' done for $25-36 and they'll also correct any intonation problems the guitar may have. Also, if you're new to playing guitar, expect it to take a while before your fingertips develop calluses. No pain, no gain!

use super glue on the tip of your fingers lol. Really I did that for awhile. It will not help build up the fingers though but it lets you play longer to learn then slowly just not use it. When you are able to play something it seems not to hurt as bad

E minor is like razorwire :(
I would think being a rock climber would toughen up those damn fingers but it only gets the palms...

EDIT: I am going to get some guy to lower the strings and put some silken steel ones on instead of the ones I have.

William, you might want to try Elixir strings, too. They're more expensive than your average set of strings, but they have either a "polyweb" or "nanoweb" coating on them that not only prolongs the life of the string, but also makes them a little easier on the fingers.

Paulsage, I allready got a luthier to lower the strings and put some silk and steel strings on, it's fine now.
