I Got My First Crestie!!! (Pics)

I gave the matter some long and hard thought, and I decided that I can afford to buy and care for one of these little guys. My local pet store had four or five Cresties to choose from, but this fella truly stood out to me. He is absolutely B-E-A-UTIFUL in person! I still need to think of a name for him/her, so any suggestions are appreciated! I'd also like to know what morph he is, although I'm pretty sure he is a flame with the slightest hint of dalmation.

BTW, you can't sex them until they're about 3 inches long snout to vent, right?

generally you can visually sex them at 12-15g since males most of the time get their bulges then, though some don't always take that long and some take longer i had a couple that were 20g before you could really see their bulges. Good luck with him/her its a beauty, i can't help you on names none of my cresties have names lol.

Can they survive strictly on the CGD, or is it really best to feed it with a mix of CGD and crickets?

They can be fed CGD only, but I think it is better to feed crickets too. It gives them more protein, and juveniles have better growth rates. Besides, crested geckos love hunting crickets!

Congrats on your first!

I was feeding only cgd, but started giving roaches once a week. They all love them and have grown so much more since they started eating bugs. I noticed that they eat more cgd now, too.

You are correct, a nice flame with some dalmation spotting. Looks to have decent crest structure as well.:main_thumbsup:

What is the oldest Crestie you know of? I know that the estimated lifespan is 15-20 years, but what is the record?

I have no idea on who owns the oldest crested gecko on record. Like you said, anywhere from 15-20 years is the expected lifespan.
