Just a bit of background info first, there are 2 companies of paid TV in Hong Kong, one is called Cable TV and the other NOW TV.

Ok, here it goes. I have subscribed to Cable TV for many years, because I like watching Discovery, National Geographic...etc; and I enjoy watching English Football too (heck, that's how I spend my time every saturday and sunday nights!). Last week, a sales person from Cable TV called us, saying that they're doing a promotion, and will offer a 10% cut on the monthly subscription fee; but we'll need to sign a 30 months contract. The promotion is only going for ONE day and if we accept the offer, we need to confirm with them within 24 hours. And so, we confirmed the deal as we never thought about terminating the service.

Just 5 days later, I saw on the news that NOW TV had won to be the sole broadcasting agent of most of the Football leagues and championship for the next 3 years!! Then I realised Cable TV knew that would happen and rushed us and many other customers into signing a 30 months contract! We called them to complain yesterday, we wanted to void the contract as the sales person never mentioned anything about losing the football channel. Their reply was ridiculous, they said we can't void the contract as the sales person never guaranteed there will be a football channel when we agreed to the "promotion". They will be adding a golf channel in the near future and so we can watch golf instead!

I want to switch to Now TV, but got screwed and that'll go for 30 months!! :main_thumbsdown:

Thats horrible!!! Companies do similiar things here also. I've had phone companies change my long distance without even asking.

Are you sure there is no way to get out of the contract? even if you pay some type of fee? I would throw a fit. sometimes when you act like a jerk you can get what you want. I don't like to do it, but sometimes you have to.
just last week I noticed $20.20 missing from my bank account. aparently, last year when I bought a domain name I some how gave them permission to take out automatic renewal payment. That would not be a problem if I had not already canceled the service awhile ago! They did not want to return my money and were just giving me the runaround. I had to stop being nice and just go into total B**** mode. It worked. $20 buck might not seem like a lot of money but I hate being screwed over! lol

Didn't work on them, we were already acting VERY MAD over the phone, but the customer service was just concerned at keeping us for the extra 30 months!! Initially, I thought even if they would not let us cancel the contract, they could compensate us with a better offer or something. But no, we get absolutely nothing!! They are standing firm to grab the final bunch of money from all their customers before everybody else turn away. :(
