I finally have a steady flow of mealworms (with 100's of aliens) so I no longer have to buy them (Sorry, Jill :main_thumbsup: ). Whats the next project? Breeding crickets! Maybe I can pull in some .00000$$ with breeding and selling what I don't need..then again I am getting a frog, so its more like .0000000000$$! lol Yay I am so happy!

Congrats, I think mealies are the easiest to breed. I got crix to breed once but I wasn't set up to deal with all the pinheads.

I am trying to get my mealies to breed. How long has it taken you to get this far?

You need about 20 beetles to get a good start making a colony. If you can keep in an area of 80-85 degrees you will get them to grow faster. Once you have the beetles, place them all in a container together with an inch or so of substrate (I use a mix of oat meal and Flukers gut load). Leave them in for 2-3 weeks then move them to another container for another 2-3 weeks. All the while you should be getting more beetles from your current stock of worms. Keep adding them in with the other beetles. In a few months you will get a nice continuous supply of mealies.

I feed my geckos supers and crix too, this way I don't blow thru my meal worm stock. Not to mention it adds variety to their diets. ;)

I never had luck with mealies and had given up after about my 5th try. When i went to get waxworms, not paying attention brought home supers and after a little while i started seeing beetles but i didn't pay them any attention. Eventually I started seeing really small worms so i went thorough and separated them. So now i have a small colony of supers. So i think supers are easier because i didnt even try to breed them and it happened.
