i have a couple questions, need help with all

As i posted before in a different topic on a different website, i just got a free leopard gecko (topic link= http://www.repticzone.com/forums/Geckos-Leopard/messages/932091.html) and i really dont have any extra light fixtures. i was thinking, do i really need a light if i have a uth? i am going to put a uva/uvb florescent light in there for lighting purposes, but not for heat. Would that work?

This set up will work; BUT you need to make sure that you are "dusting" his or her mealworms with a Calcium supplement that contains Viamin D3. There is actually a lot of controversy with this subject, but this is the way that we subsitiute UVB, and it's working out great! Gook Luck with your leo!

UV lighting is not necessary as Leopard Geckos are nocturnal, and their skin and eyes are not adapted for UV rays to assimilate Vit. D. through their skin like other sun-basking reptiles.

The UTH on the other hand, is a requirement. Belly heat at around 90 degrees on one side of the enclosure is necessary for the proper function of the leo's digestive, immune. and metabolic systems.
