Well, I know i dont post that much, but I am always coming here to see what people post about reptiles hoping to expand my knowledge on them. Also I know many of you may not even know that I am a member, but i would like to ask you for some help. My Mom's boyfriend has told me about a lizard that I never even knew exsisted. The sad part is thats it is the only lizard that lives in the same state i live in(N.J.)! It is called "Nothern fence Lizard" and once they come out of hibernetion, which with the little info i have, says april, i plan i catching a male in a female, but i dought i will be breeding them, I would just like to own a pair and get to gain the knowlegde there is to gain from them. And yes, I do have more then enough money for all of their needs, but what this post is meant for is, i would love to have information on these before i even try to catch, so if you could give me a link, or even share some of your own knowledge, please share it with me. Thank you, all help, and information is much appreciated. :main_thumbsup:

What I need information most on;

diet,
breeding, (this will help me decide if i want to breed them)
cage setups
temperatures best for them,
how long they live,
sexing,

and all other is also appreciated, once again, thank you:main_thumbsup:

It is illegal in some states, well already, thank you very much:main_thumbsup: Well, I now have one very important question, is there someone I can email asking if I would be eligable to catch one. Or would i just have to email the N.J. state and game.

Well okay, though I still would love to have one, I would love to get second oppions on keeping them from other links, and if it comes up again, then it looks like kepping one is just something I wont get a chance. But i heavily, strongly thank you for bring this to my attention, now I know something else I must keep an eye out for when looking for additional information on this creature. Yet again, thank you.

If you truly want to get knowledge on them then study them in their natural environment. Otherwise they will only be eating what you offer them and are exposed to the temps that you provide and not what mother nature does.

Also this way you are not taking them out of the wild or breaking any laws if they are applicable. It would be a nice thing to do,spend your spare time on hunting them down like the late Croc Hunter.

Fence lizards are one of the first lizards I bred at the ripe old age of 7. They are very easy to maintain, feed them crickets, mist every other day, provide a water dish, set them up similar to an anole. They do need UV light as well. All my specimens tamed down and I kept them for many years. As a kid I would run around with one attached to my shoulder. I know what you're thinking, but hey, I was young.

As for removing reptiles from the wild, one of the greatest joys is collecting your own herps. It's a time honored tradition that I think everyone should experience.

I completely agree. My dad taught me how to catch lizards and what not. I'd keep a Blue Belly, actually had an Alligator Lizard for a few years. I believe I learned valuable information as a youngster and has helped me with my care for Leopard Geckos. I'm actually doing the same with my little brother :)

I have kept fence lizards, alligator lizards, and blue-bellys since I was a kid, too. (And horney-toads, even though they are now protected in California).

There is usually a list of animals on the DNR website that are illegal to keep. The GA website basically has every reptile known to man on it, ugh I hate our laws...anyways, NJ is probably different.

You could also google "Fence Lizard" and I'm sure you could find info on them. From my own experiences they are fairly easy to keep as long as they have lots of places to hide and you don't mess with them too much. I'm not sure how easy it would be to breed them though since I'm sure they won't really adapt that well to being captive.

Good luck!

Well, I thank you very, very much, for giving me your opions are certain links, and faqs. :) But i dought I will be able, with my friend and I breeding Leos, This spring, I want to make sure all the babies get the up-most care, and if i get a fence lizard, which them come out of hibrenation in spring, I dont think I will be giving the babbies as much attention as they deserve. And with this being my first year breeding, I need to have everyting for the babies as close to prefection as possible. Lastly, my friend, who is the one who has the inquabotor and will be the one to hatch the baby Leos, he is going out of his way to get me a good inqubator next month, so now we will both have the joy of seeing the babies as they hatch from the eggs :) But the bottom line is, I have made the desission not to get a fence lizard...for now :)
