I have a plan in my mind...

As many of you may know, I do not breed any of my geckos, but I really want to try hatch a gecko myself (just imagine the joy of seeing a baby emerge from an egg...:sweetheart:), so I'm wondering if this will work...

I know a breeder that lives within 1.5 hrs drive from my house, I'm thinking of buying an egg from him. If he could let me know when he has some fresh eggs, then I'll go pick it up and put it in an incubator as soon as I get home. What do you think? I assume after an egg is laid, it can still be moved around within a short period of time? How much time do I have? Say if it can go into an incubator within 24hrs after being laid, is it ok?

(Sorry if this sounded like a stupid plan, but I REALLY REALLY wanted to try hatch a gecko myself...) Thanks.

It "should" work fine as long as temps are around 80 in the auto during transport and the egg is not turned, the top needs to be marked and kept steady.

I would suggest you take the container you plan to incubate the egg in with you and set it up on site, then keep it at 80 or so til you get it home. I would aslo suggest you get at elast 2, anything can go wrong with just 1 egg.

Thanks for the help!! My next step is to contact the person, see if he is willing to sell me an egg... :)

Hooray!! The person agrees to sell me a super giant x super giant egg (will definately be a super giant, right?)!! He said he'll sell me a clutch, but I only want 1 baby, plus I need some time to do research on incubation and then make a small incubator, test run several times...etc. (I need to make sure nothing will go wrong, as I'll only incubate ONE egg). So, I asked him to put me in his list for next year's round. :D

Ah! Congrats! Im not sure I would sell an egg. Just because I would loose money if it turned out to be something besides what I thought it would be, unless they are a breeding group bred many times. But still, congrats!
