Ok guys I am having some trouble here and need some help. My Leo is a adult around 9 1/2 inches long I'm not sure on his height as I've neve really seen him stand up tall on his legs.

I've tried two different food bowls but they are not working lol. I put superworms and mealworms in his bowl to eat. I use a small clear deli cup that I cut down a little. Either the superworms get out or he knocks the bowl over when he tries to eat out of it.

What bowl do you use, I am having a hard time finding a bowl that will work. I don't want the worms getting out or him knocking it over since I don't want the worms running around loose in his tank. Please help lol. I have a pet supplies plus and a ******** by me that I can buy a bowl from so you can post a link to it if you want or tell me what you use and how good is it in keeping the worms inside it.

I was thinking the delicup was gonna work since it's plastic and slippery but they climb right out of it. I don't want to spend $8 on a stone bowl from the pet store and it not work because I won't be able to take it back. Please help a broth out lol.

I thought the deli cup was a good idea as it's clear and he can see the food in there. Do you think a Leo would be able to hunt off smell? I know it sounds dumb but if he can't see the food I don't know if he will notice a new bowl and check it out. I can always show him the bowl but I don't know if he will go to it and eat or not.

I have his bowls set up on the cool side of the tank. His water is in the corner, cap with calcium to the right and the food bowl to the right of the calcium cap. I think a stone bowl would work fine on the tipping factor since they are heavy but it's not clear and in order for me to get one with high sides I have to get one that is longer and wider and it costs like $8-$12
I will post a pic of his tank so you can see how I have it setup.

Here is the tank for reference it is a 20gallon long. So it's 30x12x12 I have that big hide on the right is the hotside, the rubbermaid container is a humid hide and the medium hide is the cool hide. That castle thing in there he uses to shed and he climbs on it and thru it. I got that big hit side hide because he climbs on it and lays on it, with the medium hide over there it was wasted floor space. They are funny shaped and he couldn't really climb on it he just layed inside. If I use a big stone bowl it's gonna take up alot of room and I don't have alot of room. So do you have any suggestions on how I should re arrange the tank if I need to put in a bigger stone bowl or if it would just work out better in terms of room. Here's the pics of the setup.

Personally i use one of those small ceramic dishes that go under the redish terracotta flower pots. Meals worms can sometimes crawl out but it doesnt bother me because my leo just eats them pretty fast

Sorry for the crappy pics they are shot with a iPhone but at least you will get a idea of what I mean. The tiles are 6x6 also. His hot hide is huge but I have a hot spot and a cool spot on my uth. This way he can go to where he is comfy on the uth plus he climbs all over his big hide. I do have another one of the medium repti caves like I have on the left side.
I use that rubbermaid container for the humid hide as it's so easy to clean and he has a opening on the right side and a hole in the top so he can get in or out whichever way he chooses. I've debated not using that rubbermaid container and using the medium repti cave but then the damp spaghnum moss would be right on the tile and make it harder to clean.

Feel free to recommend a food bowl or a rearrange of his tank to fit in a bigger bowl. I just don't want his food getting loose and biting him when he's sleeping, I want the bowl to have food in it 24/7 so he can eat whenever he wants but I don't want to only feed him mealworms. I have to out so many mealworms in the bowl at one time just for him to get some when he goes for a bite. I tried it with only 10-15 mealies in that bowl at a time and I saw him come up empty mouthed three times in a row. I out about 20-25 mealies in there at a time now or 4-5 superworms at a time but the superss get out even if there is only 1 in there they get out..

Stephane my Leo doesn't eat alot or often around every 4 days. When mealworms get loose they go wherever they want and he doesn't eat them. Can you guys please post a pic of what you use for the bowl or post a link to a site where I can get one?

I have walmart, target, michael's, and the two pet shops locally to buy a bowl from..

I called the petstore and asked them about bowls they said they use a stone bowl that they carry and the supers don't get out of it. The bowl is like 6inchea long and 3 inches high so it's a big bowl. I forgot to ask the price but it's probably like $12

he said if it doesn't work to just bring it back and get a refund. I don't want to be running around all over but right now it's my only option for a bowl. I looked around the house and can't find anything to use for a bowl plus I want it to look nice in his tank. It's bad enough that I use that rubbermaid container for a humid hide but it works so good.

I'm gonna take back my one medium hide and use that $7 towards the price of the bowl. If the bowl looks like it won't work then I'll be back looking for answers again lol.

Wow I'm about ready to give up on the superworms. I wentto the petstore and got the deepest stone dish they had. It's about 2 1/2-3inches deep. I figured it would work so I get home throw some supers in there and bam they got out.
Lol I can't win for losing. I don't know what to do now. I know the mealies can't get out but the supers sure can. This dish is deeper then the one i used before.

I gotta give some credit to the ole super worm those guys are truely escape artists professionals. Well now I've got a nice stone mealworm dish lol. I don't have to worry about him tipping it over and dumping his food everywhere.

I guess from now on the only way I can feed supers is if I drop them in one at a time and he eats them like this. I can use it for a nice mealie bowl so it's not a total lose lol. It was only $5 and the only bigger ones were wider not deeper. Now he will have to stand on the bowl with his front legs on there and pick off his food from above.

I showed him the bowl, I picked him up and put his feet on the ledge with him looking down into it. I let go and stayed there watching them then he went into his hide. So he knows that's the food bowl but mealies only...

I am so mad right now, I put the mealies in there and they got out too. Well now I'm stuck with a $5 paperweight lol. I gotta figure out something to keep them in. They get out a deli cup, a brown bowl I used and now this 3 inch deep stone bowl sheesh..

The only thing I can think of is to get some real fine sandpaper and sand the inside of the bowl until it is smooth like glass. I can probably make the bowl to where it goes out and comes back in on the edges so the worms would have to go forward then backwards all while going up. Maybe that will work maybe it won't. It's honestly the only thing I can think of.

If I use a smooth plastic dish he will knock it over and dump his food everywhere. That's why I need a stone dish as he can't tip it over. I really thought this bowl would work, it looked like it would but it obviously doesn't..

I use ash trays from Walmart. They are located in the misc kitchen supply isle and are only .99, dishwasher safe and I guess if our geckos ever take up smoking . They work good we use them for food and water

I found a bowl online that is supposed to be a actual mealworm/superworm dish. I think it's like $& but it has a lip on the edge of the bowl to keep the worms from getting out.
I'm gonna call the petstore today and see if they carry it or not.

I really have to give the mealies and supers credit they have gotten out of three different containers. I really like this stone bowl but indont think I'm gonna be able to use it. I'm gonna look at walmart and see if i can find this ashtry thingy.
Keithn can you post a pic of it so I know exactly what to look for??

Supers will get out of everything. Maybe that's why they're called Supers. Ha!

We only feed them to our geckos on occasion because they're too much hassle. Not many of our geckos like them anyway. When we do use them, we feed them by hand and they're consumed right away so we don't have to worry about containing them.

As far as mealies... we've found that a 3" clay saucer from the craft store is the best food dish. It's shallow enough that the gecko can see the worms inside, yet deep enough that the worms don't crawl out. You can find them in the aisle where they sell clay pots. Only 50 cents or so.

Good luck!

I don't know what I'm gonna do, lol. I'm gonna take this stone bowl back as it was the worst one out of the 3. I have that brown lees mealworm dish that I'm just gonna use. They rarely got out of that and I'm just gonna feed the supers when I'm there watching.

It's a shame because I like the stone bowl tho.
