I got an exoterra tank for my geckos and decided it would look nice with the lamp hood on top instead of the usual heat lamp. plus the heat lamp was melting part of the tank..grrr...

i dont think these lights give off enough heat....any suggestions on another bulb to use in this light hood or should i go back to the old fashion one and get a stand for it?

Help!!!

Plus....

I have 4 geckos living together...one male and three females. they are now in a new location (now in my house since they were kept at the ex's house) i changed the substrate to carpet because i hated the sand i know it is bad for them. they dont seem to be eating crickets like they used to. they all used to get excited to hunt for crickets but they have been pretty lazy the past 2 weeks. they will eat wax worms tho.

one more thing....

they all have white specks on them! i have cleaned the then tank like no other so it cant be anything like mites....none of them had shed yet and they seem like their tails are not as fat and tight as they usually were.....

I just need advice...i love them all and dont want anything to happen to them!

Were all 4 geckos living together before? If not, they may be a little stressed from the new roomies. It isn't surprising that they aren't too hungry with a change of environment even if it is a new substrate. If you are concerned about their weight, I would recommend getting a scale. Good luck.

The lights you are describing are not made to put out heat. No bulb that emits heat is going to fit those fixtures. I would get an under tank heater. This is a better kind of heat for leos, and you dont have to look at the ugly fixture. Oh and get a thermometer in there so you can tell just how hot it is. Hope this helps.

I have a zilla spot heat lamp on top of my screen lid and it does fine. I also have an under the tank heater thats on 24/7. I hardly ever use the heat lamp although when I do turn it on he seems to love it, he'll get right under it sprawl out and go to sleep. I don't use it often though because I was told on this forum it'll hurt their eyes and they may go blind. I had a similar situation happen to my turtle due to a faulty light and after many vet visits and a new light she got better. I'd just be careful I think an under the tank is the best way to go.
