I live next to a salt water marsh & get to see all sorts of wildlife here in MA. Today, for the first time in my life I saw a fisher! I'd heard they were making a comeback in MA. Now my goal this year is to get a picture to prove it.

Yeah, for me this is exciting! Sure beats painting the guestroom or helping my husband lift our washer/dryer out of the basement to the 1st floor which is how the rest of my day is being spent.

Keep an eye on your cats if they go outside.

Cool sighting, rare animal to see even up here where they aren't uncommon.

what the heck is a fisher? At first, I thought it was a bird, but I'm not sure....

and "pole cats" and "the evil monster that lurks in the woods". I've lived here 10 years. I know we have coyotes, gray foxes, a wild turkey & deer that come through the yard along with the other standard New England critters. Everyonce in a while there is a noise that comes from the woods, a battle cry that literally raises the hair on your neck! I used to think it was the foxes, now I'm wondering if it's the fisher. I can't find a sound bite on the web though.

Ive always heard it described as a baby scream/cry that may end into like a bark sometimes. Hard to describe, a sound clip would help but I couldn't find one either.

Very cool indeed. The only one I ever seen was on seneca lake in NY state..... no camera, only binoculars.

Very Cool jeannine! I saw a small black weasel looking thing yesterday on my way to work, it was chasing a mole. I only caught a REALLY quick glimpse of it though.

And last week, I saw a dead animal on the side of the road, not sure what it was. It had a large brown body (About double the size of a house cat) and a black beak or snout. Kinda looked like a Platypus

Jeanne, you seen a mink(usually near water) and I bet you seen a beaver and thought the black tail was it's head. I know my east coast wildlife well.

I saw either a big mink or a small otter on the ice today. I was driving, so I couldn't stop and verify which.

Ever watch a family of otter play in the wild? Now thats fun to watch. :main_yes:
