I think I need a bigger tank...?

Hi all, new gecko owner here in need of advice.

I am in the process of preparing a tank for a gecko I will receive at the end of the month. However, even though I have read that a ten gallon tank is sufficient for one gecko, I Feel this tank is overcrowded already, and I don't even have the third hide in yet.

I think my problem is because I ordered most everything online because I didn't like what was available to me at my local pet stores. In any case, I really like the hides I got (still waiting on a warm hide to come in the mail) but I think I should upgrade to a twenty gallon.

Thoughts? Sorry this was so long! Thanks for your help!

Are you getting an adult, or a baby? If it's an adult, I'd go for a larger tank, but for a baby, smaller tanks are best so they aren't far from anything they need, or in too open of a space, which freaks them out.

I'd consider that big enough to go into a 20 gallon long if you wanted to do the upgrade. I've also always thought that a 20 gal L was much more appropriate for an adult gecko than a 10 gal.

I would find the size acceptable for a single gecko, but i would not use a fish tank but definitely and always something with ventilations on the bottom and the top, not a single one (with preference also for opposite face ones)...simply because we warm by the bottom, the warming will make a upway airflow...what's important is to have a fresh flow from outside entering by one ventilation and going out by the other ventilation, so actually a single side ventilation (especially top one) will not refresh the air as well as it should even with the whole top open.

Beside this, the setup looks great, simple and fitting a leopard (i guess the right hide is the melt boxe?) and i like the idea of this floor...Also you can without problem add a few décoration like a brench going through the terra to can see you gecko hike a bit as they're pretty good at it, but this is more for your eyes pleasure than a real needs...

It looks great! I have a giant leo in a 20 long, but my 7 month old male (who is 70 grams) is in a 15 gallon. Bigger than a 10 but smaller than a 20 long - and it seems to be plenty big enough for him.

I have a 40gal long for my two adult females and they love it. Got plenty of hides, basking spots, and things to climb.
