idea for a rack, has anyone tried with success

I am sure this has been tried before. I have a plastic snap tight rack shelving system that I was thinking might be a decent idea for a future rack. Below are two pictures showing the detail. It already has slits cut out where the heat cable could sit under it and be mounted there so that it was below the tub line. Would the plastic melt? Would this be the reason why we don't see more simple racks like this and most are constructed of wood?

Thoughts on whether this might evenutally work. I am very new to the hobby but just curious for down the road awhile.

My ball python rack is similar and I have heat cable running the back half of each shelf. I haven't had any problems. The cable we have doesn't get hot enough to melt anything. Hopefully some of the gecko folks can give you better input.

Well that is a really good idea for a rack. As far as it melting, that would depend upon how dense the plastic is as well as how cheap the plastic is. I wouldn't think that it would be a problem but getting some heat cable and doing a test would be the best way to figure that out.

I'm the type of person that doesn't want to spend money many times on something just to keep upgrading to better. So it might be a wise idea to save up money and get what you really want instead of just settleing for what is avail now.
