Okay, so I was thinking... I got a lot of 20 - 30 gallon tanks, how could i make it into a kind of rack system but still easy to get into!!

Could I put all the tanks on the side so the opening is facing the wall, then make a rack of some sort and put them one each layer... build a lil screeen top for the back of the tanks so i can still easy clean them, and they are stacked so its not taking as much space ?!?! would that work well? Has anyone ever done it? I'd love to see pictures..

Also, how should I heat the tanks then... Can I use heat tape?!

I really think that would be an excellent idea, then each tank would have even more ground space, just not as much height which isn't really needed!!! :2thumbsup: :2thumbsup: :2thumbsup:

PLEASE REPLY!! :)

If you could, it would be awesome if you just turn them on their sides and make a screen door for it to open on its side with so they can all be easily accessed from the side. I would love to do that to my huge tank but I wouldn't know where to start!

I have been thinking of something along that line myself. I have a 55 gal tank that I have on its side for my girls but a shelf set up with 10 - 20 gal tanks on their sides would be really nice. I got plexiglas cut to size, cut a 3" strip off the bottom that I screwed onto the plastic tank frame and then used small hinges to attach the top to the 3" plexiglas to make the door. GL I would defiantly make sure to use at least 1/2" thick boards for the shelves (3/4" would be needed depending on how BIG you were going to make the shelves) and 2x4's for the uprights and make sure to put enough supports.

I have a rack from Wal-Mart with 4 20 gal tanks and 1 10 gal on their sides. Heres some pics of what it looks like

I use heat pads and have drilled some holes on the plexi glass for ventilation. I've been looking for some cheap 29 gal tanks to do the same thing with and gain some extra floor space.

thanks for the pix and the ideas!! My friend has a tall but narrow bookshelf that doesn't have a back!! I think I'm going to use that, and maybe try to use heat tape, that would save me sooo much money compared to heat mats... Right now I use heat lamps for the small tanks... And for the big tank I have a REALLY large heat mat and light.

I'll post pix once I"m done all the set ups.
