I had an iguana as a kid and would love to have another some day! She was my first reptile and that's probably why they're my favorite. I just don't have time or room right now.

I've always wanted an Iguana but I always heard they get mean when they get old...

My friend had an old iguana that her boyfriend's dad found caught in a fence. They live in Florida, so I assume he was wild initially. He was a grouchy old man, but I wouldn't say mean. Just grouchy and stubborn. He reminded me of a 2-year-old. Lots of huffing and puffing and refusing to eat. I got the "death glare" quite a few times when I was babysitting him, but he never bit me or whipped me with his tail or anything (although he was pretty arthritic so that might be why).

My experience has been that as long as they're handled regularly, iguanas are (imo) generally tame. The only 'mean' ones I've encountered were after they had been neglected for a while.

They actually have a lot of wild iguanas in Florida. They're an invasive species that's been there since the 60s or 70s. Some of the wild caught babies you see in stores are actually from Florida, which is better because at least they're not removing them from their natural habitat as much anymore. But a released pet is another possibility.
