Don't do it! I have 6 geckos a 3 shelf rack from NSR with back heat and they all have horrible appetites... My geckos on belly heat never miss a meal... Maybe its just me...

The few extra minutes to do belly heat is more than worth it. It will also save you money on the rising cost on flex-watt.

We have been using back-heat for our hatchling tubs and haven't had a problem.
I've got 2 hatchling racks, one with back heat and one with belly heat. The trick is where you put your temperature probe. I tape mine to the bottom of an empty drawer, about an inch or so from the back. This way, even with a back-heated rack, the gecko is getting some belly heat at the rear of the tub.

I haven't noticed any loss of appetite with back heat as opposed to belly heat. However, if you're measuring the flexwatt and not the surface temp inside the tub, anything is possible. I use black electircal tape to secure the probe and cable so they can't be accidentally moved.

I would think that installing two 11" wide flexwatt down the inside back of a rack would be much easier and cheaper that installing a 3" strip across each and every shelf. Not to mention the wasted flexwatt if you're wrapping the flexwatt from shelf to shelf.

I think I'm going to try back heat on my next rack and simply ensure that the temp on the bottom of the tub is where it should be.

Placing two racks back to back will save a lot on the electrical bill as none of the heat is escaping out the back of the rack.

Anyone else with this same configuration?
