Hello, this is kind of a sad post for me, but I need help.

Last July I purchased my first leopard gecko from pet co (not a good choice in shop, I know). I named him Treecko after the Pokemon. I've had him for a year and I just feel like I can't adequately care for him. I can't seem to build an adiquate fat storage in his tail, he doesn't seem active, he doesn't like to be handled, and recently he's developed a problem shedding. I realize that all these problems can be fixed with close attention. However, I'll be going off to college soon and they don't allow pets. Seeing as how my younger sister has no interest in geckos, and how she kills every pet she's ever owned, leaving him with her is not an option..

he needs a new home. Seeing as how he's been a little buddy to me for the past while, I want to make sure he's going to someone with expirence, and someone who can care for him well.

It breaks my heart to post this but I need to know what my options are.
I don't have any friends that want to take him either..

I wouldn't charge for him either. Knowing that someone can care well for him is good enough.

If you could ship him, you could probably find someone on here who'd be willing to take him. But I don't know anything about shipping reptiles, so I'm not sure if that's something that's kind of not suggested for people who don't have experience with it (unless you actually happen to, but most people don't). Hopefully someone else can maybe give you guidance on that.

Oh, I dunno. Lots of people on the forum, but I can't say if any of them would be willing to take him. I'd still check for reptile rescues in your area (search Google and Facebook).

If I were you I would give your local no kill shelter a call. In my area there's at least one I can think of who keeps reptiles and rodents, if they do not there is a very good chance they will be able to point you in the correct direction or give you the number to a rescue. As long as you check out the shelter or rescue before there's a good chance they will get a good home. I know at my local rescue/shelters potential pet owners have to go through quite a bit to get a pet (especially something specific like a reptile) and often can only adopt if they have previous experience.

That is not an easy decision to make - I understand it breaks your heart :( If I did not live across the atlantic, I would definitely take him on :) Have you tried putting up an add in geckoforums? Maybe a breeder nearby (if there are any) could take him?

I wish you and your little on all the luck!
