In the future...

Hi, im 14 and i was just thinking of something about the future, as i am always asked about what job i want to do when im older. I've always been interested in reptiles and amphibians as i got my corn snake 7 years ago, along with 2 whites tree frogs that have since passed away.

So ive been thinking, im interested in herpetology- but what jobs can you actually do with it? The most obvious one is a reptile vet, but what are the other possibilities?

Thanks :)

1. open your own shop selling herps (& educating people the proper way to care for them)
2. do house parties--very popular here. They bring in a few reptiles & again educate the people about whatever it is they have with them.
3. conservation/ecology--protect their environments
4. museums/zoos
5. research assistant
6. http://www.ssarherps.org/pages/career.php
7. try searching on "herpetology careers"

It's great that you have an idea of what you'd like to do. Maybe there is a pet store or science/nature center in your area that you could get some summer work at to start building your future. Good luck.

I think research assistent would be extremely interesting. The opportunity to see these reptiles in all of their natural habitats is deffinately what I would do if I got into that field. Unfortunately, I don't have the information or experiences with any of the jobs you mentioned, but I would help you research if you wanted. I love finding ways to delay studying..especially when it deals with animals!
