I have a gravid female and this is going to be my first time incubating eggs. I have a hovabator incubator currently set up and running at 89 just to be ready(she should be laying any day now). I will be using hatchrite in airtight tupperware containers. Anyway my main question is you just monitor the temp. in the incubator not in the actual egg container correct? Also do you need to add water to the bottom of the incubator? Any help would be great. Thanks.:main_thumbsup:

I have a jar of water in the incubator to help keep temps more steady. I also haev pin holes in my egg containers and open them once a week for air exchange. I monitor the temp in a dummy egg container.

Unless you are set on having male offspring, I would change the temp to 85 degrees. Hovabators are great for most folks, but temps fluctuate quite a bit, and if it if it goes over about 91 degrees, it can cause embryo fatality.

I use airtight containers with 1 part vermiculite to 0.8 parts water by weight, and open the containers every week or two for air exchange.
