I'm not planning on breeding my geckos any time soon, but there is a possibilty that one of mine may be pregnant. I wanted to see if I could make my own incubator but with the websites and directions I've found, I don't really understand. Why would you need water for an incubator? Could anyone send me any clear directions or tell me how to do it that would be easy for me to understand? Thanks.

While I don't have any plans for you, I can tell you what the water is for. The water will help keep the humidity levels up so the eggs don't start to dry up. Also, water will hold temperature better so it will help to stabilize the temperatures.

I'll be building a 3-tier incubator in a bit to replace last year's units. I won't do a guide, but will post a photolog of sorts...

I made one like this out a lager mini fridge.

This is how to make one out of an old refrigerator.

They are pretty easy if your somewhat handy.

good luck.

Hovabators are great if your just starting out though. We started with two. One for males and one for females but that were breeding a lot more we use the fridge for females and one Hovabator for the males we produce on purpose a season. We often get a male or two even at the lower temps.

I built my own and this site helped me get my ideas...

Oh forgot to mention, I'm using a herpstat on it for temperature control and it hasn't been off the set temperature by more than 0.2 degrees. Usually it doesn't even fluctuate past the set point by 0.1 degrees so i'm really happy with the design.
