Introducing A Male/Female

I am thinking about getting two geckos, though I would like to start with just one while I get started and learn about the animal. I have never had geckos before but would also like to try breeding them. I know it is a lot of work and requires certain equipment but I am willing to try. Can I start with a Male or Female (either baby or juvenile) and then introduce the opposite sex later on once the first gecko is an adult? And can I leave them together in the tank to permanently live? Thanks

You've got it right. You can start out with a single gecko of either sex. As long as the other one is the same size when you introduce them you should be fine. Just remember that you don't want to put 2 adults in a 10 gallon tank, as they will be a bit crowded. So, if you know you are going to want a second one you probably want to spring for the 20 (I prefer 20L) at the start. Of course you always have to watch for any bullying or fights. Sometimes a male will want to breed when a female doesn't. She'll let him know to back off. We currently use a rack system with individual tubs, but there are other breeders who prefer to use tanks with breeder colonies. I know that is what Aliza does. You might want to use the search function for breeding colonies, and I bet she will have a post with a good explanation of how to set one up.
