We have a 3 year old gecko that has what seems to be sacks behind both her legs & small ones under her chin. I does not seem to bother her at all but we r somewhat concerned. :main_huh: Has anyone seen this before?
We will try and post some pics later.

There have been many posts in the past about this actually. I don't remember if anyone ever figured out exactly what it was, but I believe it was narrowed down to either excess fat or excess calcium. Either way, it is nothing to worry about. You can use the search function for "sacks" and you can find those for more info.

One of my geckos had a similar "sack" under her forearm - my vet aspirated it and the fluid inside was mostly composed of protein. He said it was harmless.

Turkey sack (hehe)

Thanks everyone for your replies. I feel alot better knowing that it is most likely harmless. Do you think it will ever go away, or is it there for good? I think if they get any bigger I will take her to the vet. She's not the most nimble gecko as it is and I dont what anything getting in the way of her moving around. :)

Yeah, a friend of ours had them tested as well and it came back as protein. It's a pretty common thing in leos. She's always been a fat kid, she could stand to loose a few grams. Maybe that will help.

big girl

She's for sure a big (and friendly) girl. Last weigh in was on 9-4 and she weighed 90grams!(90.2 to be exact) Funny thing is shes doesn't eat any more than my other geckos, do you think she should be on a diet? I never put a gecko on weight watchers before! hehe:main_laugh:

Unless she is seriously overweight you should not put her on a diet.
I have a girl like that.... She has never been eaten more than the others, but she apparently stores her deposits differently that the others :) A few of my other females have been visual thinner after egg laying, but she has not lost a single gram :)

Ahh yes, the , "love handles", debate once again.. :)

We've had them tested as well and they are generally composed of excess amylase (a breakdown protein actually in human saliva) calcium, and H20. It is not something to worry about and is very common with Macularis.

My vet and I had a long talk about that one on the golf course. He said he sees three people a week for the problem and has stopped charging because he feels bad for them. :)

Still charges me though !! JK
