Is my leo blind?

I've heard that when the shed skin doesn't come off of the leos' eyes, it can cause blindness. Lately, my leo has been acting blind, like she can't see her food or other things well. Do you think it's possible that there's still skin over her eye?

You would probably be able to see skin on there. It is possible there WAS skin though. Is there anything specific you do that gets her attention? Either good or bad? If there is, test it on either eye from an angle that only 1 eye would be able to see.

Do you mean she can't aim properly at her food? I have some geckos that has poor aim too. And if they don't want to eat, they'll completely ignore the food as if it doesn't exist.

Maybe try feeding them in dim light, see if that'll help.

It doesn't look like there's skin over the eye but I took a pic anyway. She used to eat like a little pig, but I have been feeding her by hand for the past week or so because she doesn't even see her food. The mealies and crickets wiggle right past and she doesn't move an inch. Ocassionally, she'll see a cricket, but not very often. Even when I move my finger toward her eye, she doesn't blink or move until I touch her eyelid or the side of her head. I tried this on both sides and had the same reaction.

If she is blind does anyone have any suggestions or experience on how to better provide care for her? I was housing her by herself for a while, but every once in a while, she saw the two females I had housed in a tank next to hers. I put a piece of cardboard between them so she couldn't see the others, but she started acting depressed(one of the geckos in the other tank had been her tankmate since they were both 3 months old, so, crazy as it sounds, I think she missed her). I put her in the 20 gallon with the other two females and she's perked up a little bit since then. Her weight is a little down because she missed some meals, but it's on its way back up.

i'd bring her in to a vet for a test of pupil dialation..

Most will tell you they don't miss tank mates but I've lost a pregnant female because her mate died. So who knows.

good luck..

a general exam would probably cost between 30-45$ and the test is as simple as putting a light up to it's eyes and seeing how quickly the pupil dilates if at all.

You could do the test your self. But if the eye does not dilate then you would have to go to the vet to see if anything can be done to help the gecko. ie: eye drops
