I am going to be buying another leopard gecko soon, and I am going to name him Remus. I have him waiting for me at a pet store down in san diego. He is really beautiful in my eyes, and I am curious as to whether or not he is melanistic. He doesn't have many spots on his body, only on the underside of his chin. I know he is a tangerine carrot-tail, but he is just so dark i thought it might be possible that he is melanistic.

He has sort of a brownish yellow hue visible through the dark tones, dark silver-ish eyes, and a bit of red-orange at the base of his tail, followed by dark gray. He has only one big spot on his back, otherwise he has slightly darker bands on his back, not composed of spots though.

Here are some pictures of him:

Also, any idea how old he may be? I am putting him at around 8 months right now, since he is around 7 inches long and has fully visible femoral pores in addition to huge hemipenal bulges. I didn't get any pictures of those though because he is not fond of being flipped upside-down and I don't want to stress him out too much so soon.

looks like a dark super hypo which is deep in shed, sometimes you get dark ones just from low incubation (midnight blizzards are an example of this) so it might not be a genetic mutation, more of an environmental factor, but then he is a male which are produced from high incubation temps. he does look like he's in shed though so i'd just see after he's shed, black feet is usually a give away of melanistic or dark morphs :)
