Is restlessness a sign of gravidness?

The kids and I went to the petstore to get crickets for Jackie and we always check to see if our favorite female leo is still there...she was, but she was acting very different than normal. She was pacing around the enclosure and digging at the calci-sand (UCCKK!). Could she be gravid and looking for a place to lay her eggs? She has been housed with a male since Christmas...she doesn't have a place to lay; no moist hide, just calci-sand. What will happen to her if she doesn't lay her eggs? Are there other reasons that she could be so restless and digging?

Thanks in advance! I am worried for the poor girl...

If she was housed with a male she probably is gravid, or stressed. I would tell the manager to give her a humid hide. she should have one anyway. also tell them to get her off calci sand.

Restlessness is a sign that a female is getting close to the time to lay her eggs. It can also be stress if the male is being aggressive or persistent in his breeding attempts. I agree you should ask the store manager to provide her with a humid hide/lay box. You could also ask them to allow you to look at her abdomen for visible eggs.

Thanks, I will ask the manager to see her and maybe bring a homemade hmid hide, lay box with me. I will mention the substrate should be changed as well...thanks!
