Hello,
I've had Callisto for only a few days, and I want to make sure she's doing alright based on her behavior.
For the entire time I've had her, she's remained on the heated side of the tank, either in her hide or out on the carpet. I'm guessing her heating pad isn't giving off enough heat for her to regulate by moving to the cooler side, but I don't have a floor temperature reader yet to be sure. I hope to fix this as soon as I can.
She moves slowly aside from feeding time. Then, she's alert and occasionally hard to keep in my hands. She's very curious about her tank and likes to move around as much as sleep.
Her appetite has been great. She's eaten everything I give her, except for today, when she had no interest in crickets. She prefers to eat when the insect is right in front of her.
I've only seen her drink out of her water dish once, and she didn't need much then.
It looks like she has nose mucus, which I noticed yesterday. Not sure if it's because she's cold.
Here's more basic information:
- Sex: female
- Age & Weight: unknown; juvenile
- How long have you owned your leo: 4 days
- Where was he/she obtained: pet store
A) Health/History
- How often do you handle your leo: once a day
- Is your leo acting any different today?: She didn't say crickets.
- Has he/she had any problems in the past? Not aside from the noted behavior.
B) Fecals
- Look normal
- She last went sometime yesterday
Housing:
A) Enclosure
- Size: 10 gallons
- Type: glass tank
- Type of substrate: reptile carpet; the cool side used stones, which might have been too cold for her liking
- Hides, how many, what kind: two, both logs, shedding hide on the cool side
B) Heating
- Heat source: 8 watt UTH
- Cage temps: floor temp unknown, air temp at 80 F
- Method of regulating heat source: none; no thermostat
- What are you using to measure your temps: air thermometer
- Do you have any lights: one lamp, slight heat, but only affecting the air temp
C) Cage mates: none
Describe Diet:
A) Typical diet
- What you're feeding: gut loaded/dusted crickets, mealworms; 3 crickets once a day, 1 mealworm each in the morning and evening
- How are you feeding: tongs to feed mealworms in the tank; crickets are fed in a separate tub
B) Supplements: crickets are dusted every day with Zoo Med's Reptivite with D3; crickets are provided with carrots in a separate cage; there is a dish of Zoo Med's calcium with D3 in the tank at all times.
Thank you for any responses. I definitely have to get the tank temperature sorted.
I added a few pictures below.
