Is she Ovulating? (photo)

Hi all,

I was after some advice previously about Hyzenthlay, and whether she is ovulating or not. She continues to act completely crazy at the moment (she's always been a bit crazy) and is up and about several times a day/night scrabbling around.

She hasn't eaten for over 2 weeks now. Also I realise she's in an Exo terra faunarium which isn't that big but I was quarantining her before introducing her to a big viv. I am holding off doing the introduction since she's not eating.

I can't get a better photo as she squirms and makes little barks and I don't want to stress her. Here my girlfriend conveniently snapped her trying to climb the side.

Many thanks for any help

Ok

She's still pretty young, about 6 or 7 months. She has stopped eating as mentioned, should I be worried? She hasn't been with a male obviously. How do I make sure I do everything right? She's got a mossy hide in case she wants to lay.

She's going a bit crazy though sometimes and squeezing about trying to escape (she has once already), which is worrying

She's still pretty small despite her fatty tail!!!!

I wouldn't worry too much. Like you said she hasn't been with a male. If anything she will ovulate and absorb the follicles later on or just lay duds.

How does she escape though? Geckos shouldn't be able to escape lol..

Ha, yeah believe me it was a surprise!! I had the lid just loosely on, and she managed to push it off enough with her nose to squeeze out overnight. I found her down the back of my larger viv inside a piece of unused carpet the next day. Like I say, she's a wild card.

Is there a point when I should worry? How long will she go without eating?

Thanks for your help

As far as eating goes I wouldn't be too worried yet it could be seasonal depending on where you live based on the temps or just natural behaviour in general. As long as her tail is nice and fat she is ok. In winter months mine will actually not eat for clips at a time from what I was told is a hibernation kind of deal where their metabolism slows down thus their eating habbits. The tail is a good indicator of how well they are eating since its a fat store kind of like a camels hump for water. If it's thin then worry but hers is good and plump. While ovulating or gravid too they won't eat as much and is where the tail will thin out some. When that happens give her her own tank and food and get it back to where it is since if she is kept all times with a male he will continually try to breed her which William stress her stop her from eating and she will use all the nutrient stores in her tale to try to keep up with the breeding which can be dangerous to her health
