Is Something Wrong or Is He Just Moody?

Hello Everyone,

My Leo (I believe is a male) usually acts normal. He will sleep in his warm hide all day unless too hot and will come out at night when it's dim or dark. He has been acting different though. I woke up yesterday and he wasn't in his warm hide. I was getting ready to leave and he still wasn't in there after me getting a shower and doing all of my morning rituals. So I left for most of the day and when I came back he still wasn't in his warm hide. I age talked to some people and they say "he may have came out while you were gone", but I highly doubt that considering that he didn't come out until it was night time. So starting from before I woke up (early) until that night in his cool hide is pretty weird. I gave him some ,earl worms to see if he would come out and eat them. He did. I would have been really worried if he didn't eat. Well now it's the day after and I can't really see into his warm hide (new hide) so I can't tell if he's in there, but I believe I would be able to an outline of him. Before anyone says anything about the new hide, the first day of him acting weird was the day I got the new hide. So he still had his regular warm hide before the new one. He shed almost exactly 2 weeks ago and looks a little duller, but not close to shed dull. I don't have a digital thermometer to check the ground temps, but the air temps have only raised a couple of degrees due to warm weather. I'm a little worried about his new hide. It wasn't like the other one that had ways for the heat to go out of the top, but this one is completely covered except for the entrance. The reason why I am worried about the heat is because the hide is over the heat pad and under the heat lamp. Because this message is so long I have probably forgotten some details and I can give more if reminded in questions y'all have. Thank you. I can give a pic of the tank if needed.

Update: I was checking the temps of the new hide with my fingers to see if they were too hot and I left the room and came back and he was coming out of it. Oops. lol.

It's still worth checking your temps. I would highly recommend you get a digital thermometer to check ground temps. In my opinion, the most important aspect of caring for a leopard gecko is proper temperatures. To me, a heat lamp and a heat pad sounds too hot. Is the heat pad regulated by a lamp dimmer or thermostat? If not, this is very dangerous and people's geckos have been burned from it.

Any time you change a gecko's home (add/remove/rearrange furniture, even a lot of cleaning), they will often act weird for a bit. Imagine if someone came into your home and started changing things around... :)
