Is this a Blizzard?

I recently brought this guy from a local pet shop that had it together with other males and was getting attack. I made another thread in the feeder section explaining it all. I was just wondering if this is a blizzard or a blazzing blizzard. And what do you recommend to fatten him up cause he is pretty skinny.

I have no idea about the morph type but for my gecko- they have a nutrient supplement at most pet stores for leos which would probably be best but it's a tad expensive. For mine I mixed a nutrient supplement that is actually made for dogs/cats (comes in a tube it's a thick paste, maybe $7 and it will last you forever) with hot water and powder calcium supplement. I let this cool to about room temp and fed it to mine using an oral syringe- I left a drop by his nose and he would lick it off. Time consuming process but it worked for mine!

That gecko is severely dehydrated and sick! He needs more than just fattened up, he needs a strong rehabilitation routine. It's going to take some time and cost some money. It disgusts me that pet shops have animals in this condition for sale, and by buying them, supporting their harmful practices.

Thats fine im not worried about the money, i didnt feel right leaving him there to suffer so i brought him. Your right pet stores are just out for money and dont care what condition there animals are in i agree completely.

It appears to be a blizzard, and since the eyes are not albino it is not a blazing. This poor gecko needs serious rehabilitation. I hope you did not pay money for him!

I payed 15 bucks for him at the petco which is a small price to try and save him and give him a better life.

Yes, but that just leaves room for them to buy another gecko and keep selling them like nothing is wrong. I'd love to see pics as he makes progress at becoming healthy though!

Think of it this way... if people are willing to pay for a gecko in horrible health, what incentive does the store have to improve the animal's living conditions and husbandry? All they are really concerned with in the big picture is profit. You may be 'helping' the gecko, but you are only perpetuating the disposable pet mentality of many pet stores.

I understand what everyone is saying, for me personally i couldnt of just left it there. I know petstores are just out for money and they never care about the animals they have. If i know i can try to save one then it living in those conditions i will try my hardest to save it cause i know the store isnt going to.

I doubt they made any money on it anyway. Generally speaking you don't make money off the animals, its just to get people to look. There can't be much profit from $15 if any. Especially if you take into account feeding, though doesn't look like they did, and man-hours to clean and water.

Good for you RibbitsRuS.

Just a thought...maybe everybody should back up a step from the pet shops and consider the breeders selling to them indescriminantly. Probably some shops that breed their own, but most come from "gecko mills",? I sell to shops, but local area, and I screen them for good care, somebody with knowledge, etc... if it looks like a hole, I'm gone! So breeders even with upper level morphs dumpin to shops is the real problem, not just the shops with bad practices. Shippin a box full across the country with a p.o. or cheque comin is for profit, nothin else! Somebody saving one when it hits them is not the root problem. No one should be selling to a business without some background on them, or get out of it! Hope he makes out ok for you...

I disagree with this. Breeders for the wholesale market don't give a rat's behind who they sell to, and this is okay with them. However, stores order more animals when they need them. They need them when people buy them. If people continue to pay for sick animals, they will continue to replace their inventory. If they continually get stuck with sick or dead animals, at some point they may revamp their ordering procedure, most likely by ordering less. They expect to lose a certain percentage of live animals, but cannot continually exceed it without corporations taking notice. Privately owned stores have more options in that they can buy from local breeders without having to order larger lots of animals. They don't have corporate policies they're forced to follow. They also can't afford to lose as many animals. They're more likely to take better care of what they have in stock, but this isn't always the case.

You cast your vote every time you spend your money at a store.

In addition. if you have ANY other leos. you are putting them at risk. this gecko could have parasites or many other things that can be passed to your healthy leos.

I HOPE!!!!!! you are quarantining this gecko!!!
