Got my tank today, a 15g front slider.. Got a UTH and am now looking to control the temperature.. Just wondering if the ZooMed Repti Temp 500R is any good? I was looking through a thread about thermostats and people were saying they should be $100+, but, this one is on sale for $27.99?

Also, I'm wondering..... If the cool side of the tank is too warm (based on the room temperature), is there a way to lower it? Has anyone run into this problem? Should the cool side's temperature be monitored, and if so, where should the thermometer go (in a hide, just on the floor.....)

Thanks again! Trying to get everything sorted before I get my leo in a couple weeks!

The ZooMed Repti Temp will work just fine. I use a few of those along with a few Herpstats for all my reptiles. Just stay away from the Allife type ones with the round top. I've noticed they have a 3-4 degree swing to them. They will work too but the swing is too great for what I want. For a starter thermostat the ZooMed is a decent thermostat. Also make sure to get a decent temp gun, imo they are better then a thermometer, you can point it directly at the substrate and/or the animal itself. You can pick up a decent one for about $25.00 at a show or online. As far as the room temp, the only thing you can really do is lower the a/c or keep a fan running inside the room.
