Is this normal?

I put some calcium in Shadow's tank, and he immediatley went over to the dish and started eating it like a meal, and trying to dig in it. Now it's all over the tile.
Is it normal for them to eat that much? How can I stop him from kicking it out of the dish?

I have noticed all the Leo's are doing it. This is the first time I've put dishes in their tanks, because I used to just coat the supers and crickets.
