Is this okay?

I'm new to this, so I dunno what might be too much or not enough. From what I was told, gecko's just really need the basic's. So I just wanted to know if I should remove or add anything to Rex's home? my husband decorated it and got it all set up for me...I loved his idea for the coffee mug :)

He's pretty much stayed in the warm hide which is the flower pot. The big plants in the back are outside of the tank, only the small one in front and by his water dish are actually inside. I think he needs a background maybe to make it look better ;) But over all I thought it looked okay.....however, I'm no expert lol So I'm wondering if it looks just fine the way it is?.

wow. looks good. i love the coffee mug and the plant outside. however, i am sure that everyone is going to comment on your wood chips. loose substrates i.e. bark, sand, gravel, etc are generally frowned upon because the gecko can swallow them. try paper towels, repti-carpet, or some tiles.

other than that its really nice

My husband actually commented on that also. I'm confused about it because this is what we were given with him. We bought him from, and I hate to call it a pet shop, because it's a reptile place and they acutally breed most of their reptiles. But from there the guy had him living in this...so that's a no no? What if he's feed in a seperate container would this still be okay for him?

and thanks! I thought my husband did a pretty good job on it also :)

I would jsut replace it all together. My gecko licks and chews at everything for no reason at all, so yours may accidently eat it. If you are looking for a realistic look I would suggest getting tile.

Okay...thanks. I'll have to look into changing it then. I definently don't want him to digest it and become ill or even worse :(

Do you have to hook up a thermostat to the UTH. Not much between tile and the UTH, wouldn't it get pretty hot.I've heard of snakes burrowing too close to the glass and getting burned!

nahh you shouldn't have to. and they can't burrow through tile so your all good :D
and it really wouldn't get too hot. if it does, you can put newspaper or paper towels under the tile until you get the right temp.

ie. if without paper towels=99 degrees
so you add like 3 layers under tile=96 degrees

you should be fine. just make sure you have a digital thermometer with a probe so you can see the exact floor temp.

Sounds good. Wish I would have known this before we got him, trial and error would be easier on an empty tank!:)

Very nice. I like semi-simple tanks like yours :)

Yes, tile is the best. I have a terra cotta colored tile and it goes perfectly with the desert theme I have. Tile has SO many more color choices then reptile carpet. I think a light beige would look nice in your tank. Cute idea with the mug!

That's kind of what I was thinking. Do you have any pics of your viv?
