Is wood ok?

I'm thinking of building my own rack, and I know somebody recommended melamine. Would stained wood work? Would I have to do back heat, or would I still be able to do belly heat? Thanks

Wood racks are OK. Be very cautious about the fumes/outgassing from the stain.

I can't see that wood would be a problem, I've seen many racks built out of it. As far as staining and finishing the wood, I would make sure it's safe, non-toxic and non flamable. I can't see why you wouldn't be able to use belly heat either.

What about the wood splitting though? Wouldn't the heat force the wood to split over time?
